ChargeCost

Privacy policy

Last updated: 20 July 2026

The short version

ChargeCost is an information site and calculator. It has no user accounts, sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics or advertising, and does not ask for or store personal information.

The calculator

Everything you type into the calculator (car, battery size, tariff rate, charge window) is processed in your own browser. It is never sent to us and never stored.

The “greenest time to charge” widget

If you enter the first part of your postcode (for example “SW1A”), your browser sends it directly to the National Grid ESO Carbon Intensity API (carbonintensity.org.uk) to look up your regional forecast. It does not pass through our servers, we cannot see it, and a postcode area alone does not identify you. That service’s own privacy terms apply to the request.

Hosting and server logs

The site is served by Vercel. Like virtually all web hosts, Vercel processes technical data such as IP addresses in short-lived server logs to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We do not use this data to identify visitors.

Links to other sites

We link to external sites such as Ofgem and car manufacturers as sources for our data. Their privacy policies apply on their sites.

If this ever changes

If we add analytics or advertising in future, this page will be updated first to explain exactly what is collected and by whom, and the “last updated” date above will change before those tools go live.
